World times!

This week in Maths we have been working on world times. We were split up in groups and had to find out how different people knew the time.

My group had to find out how the stone age recorded time!

The stone age!

The stone age was between 5 MYA. MYA stands for millions of years ago.

The Stone age people knew there were 365 days in a year by the position of the stars and planets. When a star or planet was in the same position as the first day of the year a whole year has passed.

When a day went by they put a stone down and at the end of a year they counted all the stones and the anwser was how many days were in a year.

How do you know the Olympics are on?

I know that the Olympics are on because:

I can feel …..

  •  the excitement in the air.
  • the pride of each country as its athletes compete.

I see ……

  • the flags waving around everywhere.
  • all the pictures in the newspaper of the athletes.

I hear …..

  • the crowd going wild.
  • who’s won the medals on T.V

Differences between Hawkesdale college and Ummul Guro?

  1. Their school is a bording school and ours isn’t.
  2. Boys and Girls are in seperate classes.
  3. They don’t have weekends. They only have Friday off.
  4. They have to wear sandals. They have sandal check ups twice a month and if they get caught not wearing sandals they have to do 10 push ups in the middle of the circle.
  5. The girls have to wear a jilbab from 6 ’til they die!
  6. They start school at 7:00 but get up at 5:00 to start their prays.

  • They wear white uniforms.
  • There are 2000 students at their school.
  • They have corn and rice farms.

Let’s find out about Saiful Falah

We are getting a teacher from Indonesia-saiful Falah. He comes from MAS Ummul Quro, Bogor.

I would like to ask him……

  1. What is the biggest difference between Australia and Indonesia?
  2. How big are the classes in Indonesia?
  3. What was the hardest thing to leave behind?
  4. Is there any simularities between the 2 countries?

150 years of AFL

Today my school is in casual to celebrate 150 years of AFL football. We had to pay $2.00 with half going to our SRC ( Student representative council) and the other half going to the heart foundation. There was a kick off at lunch time and girls were allowedto compete even though AFL is a boy sport they are getting girls involved in minor leagues.

You had to dress up in your favourite football team. I dressed up in Essendon colours which is my favourite team and love watching them play. Their colours are Red and Black. My favourite player is Andrew Welsh or Angus Monfries. They are both excellent players.  Tim (my brother) also goes for Essendon, my Dad goes for sydney, my sister goes for Geelong and Mum goes for anyone.
